COVID 19 - Notification

For the safety of our staff, guest artists, partners and audiences, we will adhere to the nationwide shutdown through 30 April. Very unfortunately, this means the cancellation of our performances for the immediate future” says Elise Brunelle, Cape Town Opera’s Managing Director. “We kicked off our 2020 season with 24 performances across South Africa and abroad in just the first three months of the year. Now with our three-week lockdown stretching into mid-April, Cape Town Opera’s staff will take this time for vocal rest, learning new repertoire, communicating with funders and partners, rescheduling some of our season and preparing to hit the ground running on the flip side of COVID-19.

In accordance with our President Cyril Ramaphosa’s stated guidelines for the containment of COVID-19, Cape Town Opera has made the decision to cancel the DUET Endowment Trust Concert featuring Pumeza Matshikiza at Kirstenbosch Gardens on 22 March, Fidelio at Artscape Opera House on 27 and 29 March and Grace Notes concerts on 5 and 7 April. In addition, Curlew River and Amagokra, which are scheduled for performances in May, will take place later in the year.
CTO’s international tours to Germany, Switzerland and Leichtenstein April through June have also been cancelled.
