Cape Town Opera, in collaboration with the UCT Opera School, presents a double bill of Sibusiso Njeza’s Amagokra and Benjamin Britten’s Curlew River. These two contrasting one-act operas (one written for an all-male cast, and one all-female) are juxtaposed in this thought-provoking and emotive double bill.
Performers include singers from both Cape Town Opera and the UCT Opera School.
Conducted: Jeremy Silver
Director: Christine Crouse
Design: Linda Mandela
Amagokra is composed by Sibusiso Njeza to an isiXhosa libretto by Fleur du Cap-winning actress and writer Asanda Chuma Sopotela. The libretto for Curlew River is by South African-born author William Plomer.
Thank you to the City of Cape Town for their generous support.
