G. DONIZETTI

MARIA STUARDA

26. 29 SEPT 2018

Royal intrigues explode onto stage as Donizetti dramatizes the fatal conflict between two Tudor Queens, Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots, bitter rivals both for the throne and for the love of Robert Leicester. Spectacular singing and spine-tingling confrontations take the focus in Matthew Wild’s minimalist staging, premiered to great acclaim in 2015 at the Artscape Opera House. Maestros Kazem Abdullah (26th Sept performance) and Marvin Kernelle (29th Sept performance) will lead the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
